A Hazard Marked on Both Sides
It is not evasion and it is not missing research. It is what an authority says when a test’s benefits and its harms are both real and closely matched — and the balance turns on what you personally weigh heaviest.
A chart is trusted because of how it was surveyed, not because of how it looks. These three govern ours.
When we describe what a recommending body concluded, we work from the published recommendation itself — its grade, its age range, its stated reasoning. News summaries of guidance are where most of the distortion enters, and we do not pass one along as a source.
Nothing here tells you whether to be screened, and nothing here interprets a result. Those are decisions for a physician who knows your age, your history, and your family — and who can examine you. We only make sure you arrive knowing what is being weighed.
A recommendation has two columns, and material that prints only one is not informing you. We give the potential benefit and the potential harm equal space and equal typeface. No testimonials, no countdown timers, no manufactured urgency.
Screening is not the same as investigating a symptom. Screening means testing people who feel entirely well. Everything discussed on this site concerns that, and only that. If you have noticed a change — urinary, sexual, pain, blood, anything at all — you are not in the screening conversation, and none of the debate here applies to you. Book an appointment.
